This is our new cat, “Cheese.” We adopted him about six months ago after any individual dumped him on a highway in our space. He’s a really affectionate dude and has been a nice addition to the family to date. He would not actually meow, however does this humorous little sound, halfway between a purr and a chirp, and it’s fairly comical.
He’s a bit of a “herder” ─ he likes to herd his people to where he thinks they must be, and he’ll simply keep chirping at you until you do what he desires. He’s notably taken with me; he loves to sit half-on and half-off my lap, purring up a storm, when I sit down on the sofa.
If he’s not on my lap, he usually settles between my feet on the flooring. If I do not pet him sufficient to go well with him, he bonks me with his head fairly forcefully (approach tougher than your average cat) till I give him his correct due. He’s my little head-banger. His worst trait is that he sheds like loopy; I’ve never had a cat that shed so profusely.
And of course, he sheds white hair, and I am likely to put on darkish colors. Alas, he does convey a tough dilemma with him. More on that in a moment. Before I get to the point of my post, let me simply air a pet peeve first, okay? Let’s speak about abandoning animals.
This is one in every of my many pet peeves, especially as somebody who has labored in animal rescue earlier than. They couldn’t be more fallacious. Fortunately, Cheese was one of many very few abandoned animals who bought fortunate. Some passing bikers noticed him being tossed out of the car (the driver did not even stop), and they saved him from working out into the road till I got here by somewhat later and stopped to assist.
I took him to the shelter to be scanned for a microchip (there was none). When the obligatory hold time was over, we went back and adopted him as a result of we felt so sorry for him. I do not know why this animal was abandoned. He doesn’t have any bad habits (like peeing on the rug, scratching up furniture, or spraying) that we have seen to this point.
He was not starving, his coat was clean, and he had a pretty collar with rhinestones on it. He was properly-socialized and usually very friendly, although we’ve seen that he could be frightened of men typically (he’s getting over this now). My best guess is that his household fell on onerous financial times and could not afford him anymore. Or perhaps somebody gave him away to a different household that did not deal with him effectively and eventually abandoned him. Or a ticked-off neighbor or abusive individual took someone’s beloved cat and abandoned him with the intention to be merciless. But actually, we’ll by no means know for sure why he was abandoned.

It’s irritating. He’s such a great kitty, and he did not need to be thrown away like that. He was simply lucky we occurred by at the best time and could take him in. However, the hard reality is that we can’t take in each animal that gets abandoned. We had the power to undertake this one, but there is a restrict on how many we will afford.
1000 to get his teeth taken care of; a bunch of them needed to be extracted because they had been in such unhealthy form. I’m pissed that his former owners just cost me a thousand bucks that I wanted for other things─ but I couldn’t let this kitty endure with abscessed teeth. So my first point is, please do not ever abandon your animals out within the nation since you assume you’re doing them a favor. You are not, trust me.
A only a few lucky animals do get adopted by nation households, however there are limits on how many can be taken in by most households. And most abandoned animals don’t even make it to a farm; most die painful, merciless deaths lengthy before they could find a new family to love them. They’ve a lot better likelihood at a shelter, either for an extra merciful demise or hopefully, for a brand-new household to love them. And there aren’t any-kill shelters accessible in many areas.
